A Remento alternative where you ask the questions

Remento and Told Together are close cousins. Both start from the spoken word and both write it up for you. The difference is who is in the room. With Remento, your parent gets a prompt each week and records an answer alone. With Told Together, you have a conversation with them, and the story comes from that.

While Remento can feel like homework, Told Together is an opportunity to connect.

A conversation gets different stories than a prompt

A parent answering a prompt alone tells the version they have told before. A parent talking with their own child gets interrupted. “Wait, you never told me that.” “What did Grandpa say?” The follow-up question is where the best part of the story usually is, and only someone who knows them can ask it. We still give you questions to start from. The difference is that you are there to ask them.

It also solves the quieter problem with weekly prompts, which is that someone has to answer them. If your mother would never record herself talking to a screen but will happily talk to you for an hour, a conversation is the format that works.

You do not have to wait for them

With a prompt service, the pace is set by the person least likely to open the email. With Told Together you set the pace. Call on Sunday, and there is a story on Sunday.

Where Remento is ahead

  • A hardcover color book is included, with QR codes that play the recordings.
  • It keeps video as well as audio. Told Together keeps audio.
  • It needs nothing from you after you buy it, which matters if you live far away and cannot call often.

Choose Remento if

  • Your parent is comfortable recording themselves and will do it weekly.
  • You want a printed book at the end of the year.
  • You want video of them telling the story.

Choose Told Together if

  • Your parent will talk to you but would not record alone.
  • You want to be in the stories as the one asking.
  • You want a finished story the same day.
  • You have old recordings you want written up.
  • You would rather pay $39.99 a year than $99.
